Christmas Acrostic

Carols and candles aglow in the night,
Hearth fires blazing all cozy and bright,
Red-leaved poinsettia ,white Christmas rose,
Ice skaters whirling on ice as it snows,
Sleigh bells and Santas,
Tinsel-trimmed tress,
Mistletoe magic and warm memories,
Angel all bringing glad tidings anew,
Seasons's best wishes specially for you!
The Carols

Christmas is finally here,
The sound of the carols fill the cold air,
Singing joyfully those Christmas songs
And the hearers can merrily sing along.
Every note, every line
Digs into my heart so divine,
Angelic voices resounding in the night,
Along with the guitar strummed in delight.
The carols shift from hymns to jives,
Sounding glorious as the melody thrives,
Filled with awe as I harden quietly,
The night is cold but peace overwhelms me.
The Christmas Story
Once upon a time,
A long,long time ago;
Begins the story of a baby,
That most of you should know.
His daddy's name was Joseph,
And Mary was His mom,
This baby was very special,
He was God's only son.
Some angels came from heaven,
And they began to sing,
To the shepherds in field below,
"Glad tidings do we bring!"
A bright star lit the heavens,
To light the magi's way,
To the baby in the manger,
Who was born on Christmas day.
And all who gathered round Him,
Rejoiced and praise His birth,
For the baby ,the king, named Jesus.
Is our Savior here on earth!
Christmas Colors

I see the city at its most dazzling,
When the lights are on that are eye popping,
Christmas colors come into view,
Like red green, yellow and blue.
Red means love shared with everyone,
Bitter discords are finally gone,
Painting the town red at its full swing,
What a wonderful joy this season brings.
Yellow works best when paired to other colors,
Yellow brings warmth in people's embraces,
Sparkling gold can be seen everywhere,
In tinsels, candles, and Christmas stars that glare.
Some feel blue when they miss someone,
Some dream for a white Christmas as stated in the song,
Green is the color of nature and fertility,
Embedded in the mistletoe's and Christmas trees.
Whatever meaning these colors may tell,
We still look back to the first noel,
It's the reason why we have this merry-making,
That night was the birth of our savoir king .
The Meaning Of Christmas...

Far away in Bethlehem, a baby boy was born,
Born with neither riches nor with fame,
Yet wise men came from all around to bring to Him to their gifts,
And peace was felt by all who heard His name.
Angels watched Him as He slept,
And gently rocked His bed,
Their voices singing softly in His ear,
His mother and His father both gave thanks to God above
For the greatest gift for all, their son , so dear
They knew His life upon this earth
would not be filled with wealth,
They also knew He would encounter strife,
But most of all, they knew that He would be a loving Child,
And teach the love of God throughout His life.
At the Christmas,as we celebrate this birth of Jesus Christ
Lets keep in mind the truth of Christmas day,
For its not the Christmas wrappings, nor the gifts that lie within
But our gifts of love to others in every way..
Christmas is....

Christmas is not about gifts and toys,
It's the time when people rejoice,
Christmas is not about food and drinks,
It's not about this world as everybody thinks.
Christmas is about everlasting love,
It's thanking the lord for what we have,
Christmas is about sharing and family,
It's about Christ who love us fully

Jingle bells

Jingle bells,Jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun It is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh
Dashing through the snow
In a one horse open sleigh
O'er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bob tails ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A sleighing song tonight
Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
A day or two ago
I thought I'd take a ride
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot
We got into a drifted bank
And then we got upsot
Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh yeah
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun It is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh

Christmas Bells

I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along
The unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
Till ringing, singing on its way,
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime,
A chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
Then from each black, accursed mouth
The cannon thundered in the South,
And with the sound
The carols drowned
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
It was as if an earthquake rent
The hearth-stones of a continent,
And made forlorn
The households born
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
And in despair I bowed my head;
"There is no peace on earth," I said;
For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!"
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
"God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men."

Happy dusherra
Today is the day when we burn all our sins,
And promise to begin all over again,
Flames come and take all the darkness away,
Light shines and makes it own way,
Because this is the festival where truth wins,
We make our way towards a bright future and with our heads high and up chins,
Take a vow to do all this together,
As we burn the ravana inside us which is kept like a false heather!
Happy dusherra!

The Great Feast of Eid-ul-Fitr
Like the color of silver,
in the night sky,
the new moon rises,
the holy month has past,
the fasting is over,
tomorrow is the great feast of Eid-ul-Fitr.
We will eat spicy chicken,
and mouthwatering pakoras,
I'll call my neighbors,
and friends on the street,
may the peace of Allah,
and joy of Eid,
be with everyone.
Happy Diwali
It's the "Festival of Lights" today,
It's again the day of Diwali,
It's time to dress up folks,
It's time to adorn the thali.
It's the occasion to throng the temples,
Pray to the Gods and give them offerings,
It's an opportunity to entreat the deities,
To bless us all and rid us of sufferings.
It's the day to light the diyas,
Ignite the rockets and burst crackers,
But it's also the time to be safe,
From the fireworks and all the sparklers.
It's the season to pay a visit,
To all our friends and relations,
To hand them over sweets and presents,
Diwali is our splendid chance.
But while you spend a time of joy,
Don't think it's merriment all the way,
Out there wait many of those,
For whom it's no time to be gay.
Denied of laughter and smiles for days,
They know not what it is to enjoy,
Can you not share something you have,
Can you not bring them a little joy?
When you can make someone else smile
When you can be someone's ally
That's when you can yourself be glad
That's when you'll have a HAPPY DIWALI!
Diwali
The clear blue sky,
The scent of flowers,
The colors of Rangoli,
And the sound of crackers.
The gifts and sweets from dear ones,
And the getting of their love,
The light of the candles below,
And the dazzling fireworks up above.
Lighting lamps at our homes,
Making the less fortunate smile,
Putting on new apparels,
Show our friends some style.
Paying respects to the gods,
And decorating for them the thali,
This is what the occasion is all about,
This is the spirit of Diwali.
The scent of flowers,
The colors of Rangoli,
And the sound of crackers.
The gifts and sweets from dear ones,
And the getting of their love,
The light of the candles below,
And the dazzling fireworks up above.
Lighting lamps at our homes,
Making the less fortunate smile,
Putting on new apparels,
Show our friends some style.
Paying respects to the gods,
And decorating for them the thali,
This is what the occasion is all about,
This is the spirit of Diwali.

Holi hai
Gulal – red, green, yellow and countless.
A day’s canvas – a riot of colors.
Lively crowd running hither and thither,
Rainbow of colors, dashing from every nook and corner.
Disregarding their woe and despair fervent folks,
rejoicing at the marvel of colors.
A day filled with luster and gaiety,
A day to smear our dreams-
With a splash of vibrant frenzy colors.
Holi Hai! A spring of unbounded fun and frolic!!

Holi has come
Holi has come, Holi has come
O dear friend and my chum
Come to my home
Or I am coming to your home
To smear your face
Forgetting every difference
With coulours blue and red
With love and affection
That will never fade
And will be in action
The memories of childhood
The jolliest of the jolly mood
Enjoy this festival
With colours and ‘gulal’

Rango se Pyaar
Kyo mo pe rang ki maari pichkaari
Dekho Kunwarji doongi mein gaari
Bhag sakoon mein kaise mo san bhaga nahin jaat
Thadi ab dekhoon aur ko sanmuch mein aat
Bahut dinan mein haath lage ho kaise jane doon
Aaj phagwa to san ka tha peeth pakad kar loon
Jab phagun rang jhamkte hon
Tab dekh baharein holi ki.
Jab daf ke shor khadke hon
Tab dekh baharein holi ki
Pariyon ke rang damkte hon
Tab dekh baharein holi ki.
Basant khelein ishq ki aa pyara
Tumhin mein chand mein hoon jyon sitara
Jeevan ke houzkhana mein rang madan bhar
So rom rom charkiya laye dhara
Nabi sade basant khelia kutub shah
Rangeela ho riha tirlok saara
Le abeer aur argaza bhar kar rumal
Chidkte hein aur udate hein gulal
Jyon jhadi har soo hai pichkaari ki dhaar
Doudti hein narian bijki ki saar
Gulzar khile hon pariyon ke
Aur majlis ki tyari ho
Kapdon par rang ke cheeton se
Khushrang ajab gulkari ho
Holika Dahan
Year after year
purity of fire
is challenged by evil,
appeased with offerings
A full moon looks on
as winds stoke embers,
flare flames
to a flickering dance
Right in the center
of crimson blaze
sits Holika,
Prahlad in her lap -
her arms a circle of heat
White sparks fly from her hair,
eyes smolder in fury;
her mouth sucks in air,
engulfs rice and wheat
Wood chars,
coconuts splinter,
flowers singe
smearing earth with ash.
Year after year
faith survives.
Holika burns to death.

Holi Blues
It is the Holi celebration after all.
I can't play inside my home, the carpets will get tainted,
I cant' play it in the yard, the grass and outer walls will get painted.
I thought I would go to the temple,
and enjoy the traditional Holi festivities,
Once again I am banned from playing with colors inside the temple,
I can't play the drums and sing "Holi hai" outside, as the neighbors don't like the noise.
Little disappointed, I head for the community centre,
they have the Holi celebration in the evening,
The kids perform and remind me of my cultural heritage,
I hear all the nice Holi songs and watch dances,
I enjoy Puas(sweets) and Goat meat curry as a special Holi treat,
but I still miss the colors and Gulal on my face.
As a kid, the full moon night before the Holi,
we had a big bonfire in the middle of little Indian City,
Next morning we will get up, make buckets of colored water,
No one in the neighborhood will be spared from colors,
When we ran out of the colors, mud, paint and coal tar,
would cover our faces in the cheerful spirit of Holi festival.
There was some special meaning playing Holi with girls,
this is the only day when we can get close to them with some hesitation,
the wet colors dignified their bodies,
the dry colors showed their beauty in multi colors.
After our morning session, we came home to the big feast,
All the puas, puris, pulav, meat and vegetable curries made our mouth water.
In the evenings, we wore our new kurta and pajamas,
went door to door, played gulal with young and old,
everyone offered their best sweet treats,
That was the real Holi, now it is only in my dreams.
